I'm on the Waitlist. What does that mean?

I'm on the Waitlist. What does that mean?

While we would love to admit every qualified candidate, each externship organization has a limited number of placement spots. Being waitlisted means you’re still in consideration for admission, and there are important steps you can take now to be ready in case a spot opens up.

What Are the Chances?

Historically, between 1 in 5 and 1 in 3 students on the waitlist have received an offer of admission, depending on the cohort and available placements. Approximately 1 in 10 students who ultimately enroll at NIMAA were initially placed on the waitlist.

What You Need to Do Next

If you're committed to becoming a medical assistant, staying engaged and prepared during this time is one of the best things you can do.

1. Make sure you receive all NIMAA emails

Add @nimaa.edu and @populi.co to your contacts or safe senders list to make sure messages don't end up in your spam folder.

2. Start submitting your required documents

You can upload the required enrollment documents to your admissions portal, even while on the waitlist. Submitting these documents now will ensure a smooth and timely enrollment should you be offered admission.
  1. Proof of education and ID: Learn more in the article Enrollment Forms: Proof of Education and ID
  2. Immunization records: Review requirements in this article Enrollment Forms: Required Immunizations
Email admissions@nimaa.edu if you need the link to your admissions portal.

3. Review the program calendar

Familiarize yourself with important dates in the Program Calendar like enrollment deadlines, start dates, and orientation sessions. Being aware of the timeline will help you plan ahead in case you're offered admission.

4. Understand the rollover process

If you don’t receive an offer of admission this cycle, you’ll be eligible for the rollover process in the next cohort. Here’s what that means:
  • You’ll be given priority consideration over early and regular admissions candidates in the next cycle.
  • Rollover does not guarantee admission, but your application will be reviewed ahead of new applicants.

  • Some externship partners only host students in certain cohorts (e.g., fall only), so timing and availability may vary.

NIMAA will provide additional information about the rollover process at the end of the enrollment cycle in the event you are not offered admission from the waitlist.

Final Tip

Even while waitlisted, staying proactive shows you’re serious about your journey toward becoming a medical assistant. Preparing now can make your transition smoother if a spot opens up and can position you for success whether it's this cohort or the next.
