NIMAA's Current Externship Clinics

Our Spring Cohort externship clinic partners list is still in progress. Please check back regularly for updates.

NIMAA is an online program that also requires students to complete 240 hours of clinical experience at one of the many externship organizations that work with us. We are excited to work with the following healthcare organizations to support the externship experience. To learn more about the program structure, please click here. 
Students applying for the program must be located near one of our approved externship partners listed below.

  1. In addition to the NIMAA Enrollment Requirements, some externship clinic partners have additional requirements as you will see listed below each clinic in red. Read each one carefully and if you have questions, please email admissions@nimaa.edu. 
  2. As you will see, some externship clinics have multiple sites that are hosting students. Please note that we cannot guarantee a specific clinic, but we try our best to keep things like commute in mind when assigning incoming students to clinics. For example, if you would like to do your externship hours through Salud Family Health, then it is possible you could be placed at any of their sites.

  1. All candidates must be proficient in verbal and written English and Spanish. 
  2. All candidates must be willing and able to attend externship at any one of Esperanza Health Center's clinical sites.
  3. All students must apply to FAFSA and WIOA financial aid, if eligible, in order to be eligible to receive Esperanza's financial aid.
  4. Any student who accepts Esperanza Health Center's financial aid offer to pay for NIMAA tuition and fees will be subject to the terms of Esperanza's Tuition Repayment Agreement. Upon completion of the NIMAA program, if an offer of employment is made to said student, said student must complete a minimum of two years of employment as a medical assistant at Esperanza, otherwise said student will be required to repay Esperanza in accordance with repayment schedule established in Esperanza's tuition repayment agreement.
  5. All students must complete and pass a background check facilitated by Esperanza Health Centers, which is independent from any background check facilitated by NIMAA. In addition, any student placed at a school-based center for externship must complete and pass a Chicago Public Schools background check, which is independent from any background check facilitated by NIMAA and Esperanza.
  6. Candidates must not be concurrently enrolled in or actively participating in any other academic program during their time in the NIMAA training program.
  7. Internal candidates must obtain a formal letter of approval and recommendation from their direct supervisor to participate in the NIMAA program. This letter will be provided to candidates after NIMAA initiates the reference request for the interview. Candidates are responsible for forwarding the letter to their supervisor for review and signature. Interviews will not be scheduled unless the signed letter is submitted to the program coordinator.

Keystone Health provides full tuition assistance in exchange for a 24-month full-time employment commitment as a Clinical Medical Assistant upon graduation. Students that complete their externship with Keystone are loaned a laptop while enrolled in NIMAA.
Current Keystone employees accepted into NIMAA will be supported by having their lab and clinical hours incorporated into their work schedules and will be paid while completing all required lab and clinical rotations.
