Pairing a Populi Course with an Existing McGraw-Hill Connect Course

Pairing a Populi Course with an Existing McGraw-Hill Connect Course

Overview

As part of preparing your course for a new cohort, you will need to pair your Populi course section with the corresponding McGraw-Hill Connect course. This one-time setup establishes the connection between the two platforms, allowing Connect assignments and reading activities to be accessed directly through Populi. Once the pairing process is complete, all existing Connect assignments and reading assignments should be linked automatically without requiring manual redeployment.

Lead Instructor Course Preparation

Before instructors begin their cohort preparation, the lead instructor must complete the initial course setup in both Populi and McGraw-Hill Connect. This ensures that each instructor has access to the correct course sections and can complete the pairing process for their assigned section.

The lead instructor should complete the following steps:

  1. Assign course sections to instructors in Populi
    • Verify that each instructor is assigned to the appropriate Populi course section for the upcoming cohort.
    • Confirm that instructors have the necessary access to their assigned sections before beginning course preparation.
  2. Share Connect courses with instructors
    • Copy the corresponding McGraw-Hill Connect course sections with each instructor.
    • Ensure that each instructor has access to the correct Connect course that matches their assigned Populi section.

Once these steps are complete, instructors can proceed with pairing their Populi section with the corresponding McGraw-Hill Connect course.

Instructions
  • In your Populi course section, select Assignments from the left-side navigation menu.
  • At the top of the Assignments page, select Add Assignments (located to the right of Add an Assignment Group).
  • Select Add LTI Assignment (the last option). In the LTI Tools drop-down menu, choose McGraw-Hill Connect 1.3.
  • On the right side of the window, select the Create via LTI launch radio button, then click Launch Tool.
  • When the McGraw-Hill Connect window opens, select the Connect tile to begin the pairing process.
  • Choose Pair with a Connect Section, then select Pair with Existing Connect Course.
  •  The course will have a blue select option to help you identify your unpaired courses.
  • On the left side of the screen, locate the Connect course that matches your Populi section and click Select.
  • Important: After selecting the course, a page displaying a red message that says "You are almost done. Do not leave this page yet." will appear.
  • Do not close or navigate away from this page.
  • Wait until the pairing process finishes completely.
  • Return to Populi once prompted and close the existing dialog box that will still appear in the course.

  • What Happens Next?

Once the pairing process is complete:

    • All existing Connect assignments should be relinked automatically.
    • Reading assignments should also function correctly without needing to be manually redeployed.
    • Students should be able to access all Connect content directly from Populi.
Instructors will check links the week before each lesson opens to ensure they are still working.
    Troubleshooting

If assignments are still not functioning after the pairing process completes:

    • Verify that the correct Connect course was selected.
    • Refresh the Populi course and test a Connect assignment.
    • Unpair and repair the course and wait for the system to provide the prompts to continue.
    • If problems persist, contact your system administrator or McGraw-Hill Connect support for additional assistance.
