CPR Certification Requirement for Externship
Before you can begin attending your externship and completing your hours, you must first complete your CPR training and upload your certificate into Populii. This is a required step for all students and must be completed by the start of externship, which begins in week 3 of the program.
📅 Deadline
We must receive proof of your course completion by the Friday of Week 2 (Intro to Clinic Week)
Failure to upload your certificate by the deadline will delay the start of your externship.
🧭 Steps to Complete Your CPR Training
Step 1: Log in to Populi
Access your Core Skills course (CWS 101: Core Skills)
Navigate to the Lesson Tab
Locate and select Week 1: Introduction to Medical Assisting Lesson
Navigate to page seven (7) titled CPR
Locate the link to the course titled BLS Healthcare Providers CPR Certification Class, which will direct you to an outside website (National CPR Foundation) to take the course.
Step 2: Complete the Course
Once you are directed to the National CPR Foundation website, you will be prompted to enter your information (first and last name and email address). This is how it will appear on your Certificate of Completion, so please be mindful of how you enter your information.
Before you begin, be sure you are taking the correct course. You will be required to complete only the Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (HCP) course. Any optional or extra courses offered by the National CPR Foundation will not be covered by your tuition and will be your responsibility.
Finish the full CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers course (approximately 2 hours).
Step 3: Proof of Completion
Now that you have completed the required course, you will be prompted to download and/or save your certificate/wallet card.
Download and save your certificate or wallet card.
Return to or re-access your Core Skills course (CWS 101: Core Skills).
Return to the Week 1: Introduction to Medical Assisting Lesson, Page seven (7), titled CPR
Locate the section within the lesson titled Upload Your CPR Certificate
Using the link to the assignment provided, upload a copy of your certificate or wallet card to receive credit for completing your Core Skill Competency (CC) on CPR & AED
Confirm the upload is successful before the deadline.
❗ Important Notes
The cost of your BLS HCP course is included in your program tuition. Do not send payment for this required CPR course.
CPR certification is mandatory before externship hours can begin.
Late or missing uploads will prevent you from starting your externship.
Uploading your certificate is your responsibility.
