Thank you for partnering with NIMAA to support our students during their hands-on Skills Lab sessions. This guide outlines the skills students will practice, the equipment needed, and the scenarios instructors will use during the session.
Students are expected to
arrive prepared and have completed all required pre-lab assignments. Your
support helps create a safe, organized, and successful learning environment.
Site
facilitators will demonstrate site-specific equipment and
policies. The site facilitator or a qualified employee at your site may conduct the demonstration. The instructor will add general information to the demonstration that students need to become proficient in the
skills. This collaboration allows students to practice core skills under the instructor's
guidance before demonstrating them.
Student Preparation: Before attending this session, students must complete all skills without a ✱ in SimTutor and documented in the assignment tab of their Core Skills course.

If you cannot provide any items on the list, please let the instructor know immediately so they can make accommodations.

Instructors will present the following scenarios as students practice and demonstrate their skills.
A patient presents to the clinic complaining of intermittent (occurring at irregular intervals; not continuous or steady) chest discomfort and some dizziness. The provider orders a STAT ECG/EKG.
A patient presents to the clinic complaining of difficulty catching their breath after an asthma attack yesterday. The patient has been using their prescribed inhaler but just does not feel like their breathing is where it should be. The provider ordered a peak flow meter and would like the reading to be between 350 and 400.
On Saturday, {the instructor can use their name or make up a name} went to the emergency department (ED); the patient was experiencing abdominal pain with emesis. They are calling the clinic to schedule a follow-up appointment with their PCP. They stated that the ED gave them some nausea medication, and they drew blood. They state that the nurse indicated they have a sodium deficiency and will need to be monitored. They have since developed a headache and are very tired. What is the best way to handle this call?

Mock Certification Exam |
A room to take the mock certification exam. This room should include the following: · Individual space for the students to sit at tables or desks. · Access to outlets for their laptops. · Free of distractions with people passing through and other sounds. · A welcoming and supportive environment. Site Facilitators are encouraged to offer students words of encouragement and support throughout the session. Students greatly value the support they receive from the clinic, and a few positive words can go a long way in helping them feel confident, supported, and motivated as they prepare for their certification exam. |
