Thank you for partnering with NIMAA to support our students during their hands-on Skills Lab sessions. This guide outlines the skills students will practice, the equipment needed, and the scenarios instructors will use during the session.
Students are expected to
arrive prepared and have completed all required pre-lab assignments. Your
support helps create a safe, organized, and successful learning environment.
Site
facilitators will demonstrate site-specific equipment and
policies. The site facilitator or a qualified employee may conduct the demonstration. The instructor will add general information to the demonstration that students need to become proficient in the
skills. This collaboration allows students to practice core skills under the instructor's
guidance before demonstrating them.
Student Preparation: Before attending this session, students must complete all skills without a ✱ in SimTutor and documented in the assignment tab of their Core Skills course.
Students must have access to the required supplies and equipment needed to practice Administering Oral Drugs and Injections. These materials are essential to students' overall skills development and allow them to practice the proper steps, techniques, and procedures in a controlled learning environment.
Even if your site does not permit students to administer oral medications or perform injections on patients, students still need access to the appropriate supplies and equipment to practice these skills during the skills lab sessions. Students are expected to learn and demonstrate proficiency in these skills as part of their overall training. Providing the necessary practice materials helps students build familiarity and confidence with the equipment and procedures, even when they cannot perform the skills on actual patients at the site.
If your site has restrictions that prevent students from performing these skills, please work with the instructor to identify an appropriate way for students to practice using the required supplies and equipment.

Adult: A patient presents to the clinic and states they were at a concert, and the music was very loud. They feel like their hearing is muffled a bit, and they have on-and-off ringing in their ears. How will you check their auditory responses?
Child:
A
2-year-old child presents to the clinic with their parent for a well-child
appointment. The child’s daycare physical form requires a hearing test. How
will you check their auditory responses? How will you check their vision?
