How to Submit an Audio Recording

Submitting an audio recording for your assignment or project is a simple process that allows you to showcase your understanding and creativity. This guide provides instructions on how to record, save, and upload your audio files to ensure a smooth submission. 

For Phones and Tablets

Using iPhone/iPad (iOS)

  1. Open Voice Memos: Find the Voice Memos app on your home screen and tap to open it.
  2. Record: Tap the red record button to start recording. Hold the phone about 6-12 inches from your mouth and speak clearly into your device.
  3. Stop Recording: Tap the red square button to stop recording.
  4. Save Recording: Your recording will automatically be saved. Tap on your recording to view more options.
  5. Share Recording: Tap the share button (square with an upward arrow) and select "Save to Files".
  6. Upload to Populi: Navigate to the assignment submission area, and upload your audio file.

Using Android

  1. Open Voice Recorder: Find the Voice Recorder app on your home screen or in your app drawer and tap to open it.
  2. Record: Tap the record button to start recording. Speak clearly into your device holding it about 6-12 inches from your mouth.
  3. Stop Recording: Tap the stop button to stop recording.
  4. Save Recording: Your recording will automatically be saved.
  5. Upload to Populi: Navigate to the assignment submission area, and upload your audio file.

For Computers

Using Windows

  1. Open Voice Recorder: Press the Windows key and type "Voice Recorder" to find the app. Click to open it.
  2. Record: Click the blue record button to start recording. Speak clearly into your microphone or headset from a distance of 6-12 inches from your mouth.
  3. Stop Recording: Click the blue stop button to stop recording.
  4. Save Recording: Your recording will automatically be saved in M4A format.
  5. Upload to Populi: Navigate to the assignment submission area, and upload your audio file.

Using Mac

  1. Open Voice Memos: Find the Voice Memos app in your Applications folder and open it.
  2. Record: Click the red record button to start recording. Speak clearly into your microphone from a distance of 6-12 inches from your .
  3. Stop Recording: Click the red square button to stop recording.
  4. Save Recording: Your recording will automatically be saved. Click on your recording to view more options.
  5. Upload to Populi: Navigate to the assignment submission area, and upload your audio file.

Tips for All Devices

  • Make sure you are in a quiet place when recording.
  • Do a small, 5 second recording first to test. This ensures that the hardware works before you spend a lot of time. 
  • Speak clearly and at a moderate pace.
  • Drink water to keep your throat hydrated.
  • Stand or sit up straight: Good posture helps you project your voice clearly
  • Smile if you want to: Smiling while you speak can make your voice sound more friendly and engaging
  • Avoid fidgeting, sometimes these movements cause unwanted noise
  • Listen to your recording before uploading to ensure quality.
