Purpose
The Applied Medical Assistant (AMA) Week Makeup Policy provides a structured remediation opportunity for students who have completed all End-of-Block Assessments but remain unsuccessful in the course.
This process supports student success while ensuring consistency, accountability, and academic standards across AMA courses.

Student Eligibility
Students may participate in AMA Week remediation only if:
- All End-of-Block Assessments have been completed
- The student is still failing the course
- The student submits the required remediation request form

Completion of remediation does not guarantee a passing grade.

Instructor Responsibilities
Instructors play a critical role in guiding, documenting, and monitoring the remediation process.
Instructor responsibilities include:
- Reviewing student eligibility
- Completing the remediation form
- Providing clear written remediation directions
- Meeting with the student to review expectations
- Setting and communicating deadlines
- Reopening or resetting coursework as needed
- Monitoring student progress
- Grading submitted remediation work
- Communicating final outcomes to the student

Required Instructor Process
Step 1: Grade AMA Week Content
Review and finalize grading for AMA Week content within the block.
Confirm whether the student completed:
- The End-of-Block Assessment
- The Group Case Study activities
Step 2: Determine Required Student Work
If the End-of-Block Assessment Was Not Completed:
Allow the student to complete the missing End-of-Block Assessment.
If the End-of-Block Assessment Was Completed:
Assign the following remediation activities:
- Watch assigned case videos
- Complete discussion posts associated with the student’s group case
- Respond to questions directed to the assigned group
- Complete all case questions on the required document

Instructors may select an alternate group discussion for student responses if needed.
Complete the instructor section of the remediation form and include:
- Specific assignment directions
- Required activities
- Deadlines
- Additional notes or expectations
Step 4: Meet With the Student
Schedule a meeting with the student to review:
- The remediation process
- Assignment expectations
- Submission requirements
- Deadlines
- Available support resources
Step 5: Send Follow-Up Documentation
After the meeting, send a follow-up email outlining:
- Required assignments
- Final deadlines
- Submission expectations
- Consequences for missed deadlines

All deadlines should be clearly documented in writing.
Step 6: Reopen Coursework
Reopen or reset assignment availability dates to align with the approved remediation timeline.
Students should be given two weeks to complete remediation work.
Encourage students to complete work during pause weeks whenever possible.

Grading Expectations
When grading AMA Week makeup work:
- Students may not earn presentation component points (-20 points)
- The highest possible score is 80%
- Grades should only be updated after all remediation deadlines have passed

Monitoring & Communication Expectations
During the remediation period, instructors should:
- Monitor student progress regularly
- Respond to student questions in a timely manner
- Document communication when appropriate
- Maintain clear and consistent expectations
After grading is complete, instructors should send the student a final email communicating:
- Final remediation results
- Updated grade status
- Any additional next steps

Important Notes
- Remediation opportunities should be applied consistently across students
- Deadlines and expectations must be documented clearly
- Students who fail to complete remediation within the approved timeframe may forfeit the opportunity
- Academic integrity policies remain fully applicable during remediation activities
